Start with what changed

Tell Dr. Stanton whether pain began during a specific movement, after a fall or collision, or gradually as your activity changed. Back pain after lifting, neck discomfort after a game, or shoulder or knee pain during exercise can have different causes. The location of pain alone does not establish a diagnosis.

Describe swelling, restricted movement, weakness, or any tingling or numbness. Mention what makes symptoms better or worse and whether they affect walking, sleep, work, or everyday tasks. You do not need to work out the cause yourself before requesting an appointment.

An evaluation before a care plan

Your history and examination help guide the discussion. Dr. Stanton considers your symptoms, movement, prior injuries, and health history. Additional testing or referral may be appropriate depending on the findings. Chiropractic care is not the right choice for every injury.

When appropriate, care may include chiropractic treatment, corrective exercises, injury rehabilitation, and practical guidance about activity. The plan should explain what each recommendation is intended to address and how your response will be reviewed. No particular treatment or recovery timeline can be promised before an individual assessment.

Discuss returning to activity

Bring questions about the movements you want to return to, whether that means lifting, running, recreational sports, or simply moving comfortably again. Ask which activities to modify, what symptoms to watch for, and when reassessment is needed. Returning to sport depends on the injury and your progress, not a fixed number of visits.

Bring relevant medical records, information about previous injuries, and a list of medications. If you have already been evaluated elsewhere, let the office know. Call the practice to discuss appointment availability and what to bring.

When another setting is needed

Seek prompt medical assessment for a suspected fracture, visible deformity, inability to bear weight, or substantial swelling after an injury. A suspected concussion needs medical assessment before returning to sport. Severe head or neck trauma, loss of consciousness, or new significant weakness calls for emergency care.

For non-emergency sports-related pain or movement concerns, call Twisted Spine and Joint to ask about an evaluation. Your first step should fit the injury and your individual needs.
