Pain and injury affect daily life, work, and recovery in ways that deserve clear context. The figures below come directly from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics and the Texas Department of Transportation. They are presented as public reference data, not as medical advice or a substitute for an individual evaluation.

How to use these figures

These are population-level statistics. They describe a survey or statewide crash-reporting system, not an individual person’s diagnosis, prognosis, or care needs. For the pain figures, “chronic pain” means pain reported most days or every day during the previous three months. TxDOT’s crash figures reflect reportable crashes recorded for calendar year 2024.

Sources and methodology

  1. CDC National Center for Health Statistics, “Chronic Pain and High-impact Chronic Pain in U.S. Adults, 2023”. NCHS Data Brief No. 518, published November 2024. The report uses the nationally representative 2023 National Health Interview Survey of the U.S. civilian, noninstitutionalized adult population.
  2. Texas Department of Transportation, “Texas Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Facts, Calendar Year 2024”. Figures reflect Texas Peace Officer’s Crash Reports received and processed by TxDOT as of April 9, 2025.
